Power for Operations That Can’t Stop
In large-scale operations, power is not just a service—it’s a strategic resource. Its availability, cost, and management can directly impact operational continuity, competitiveness, and a company’s ability to respond to changing scenarios.
With this vision in mind, Tical worked alongside Avolta to develop a comprehensive energy solution that combines solar generation, industrial storage, and efficient energy management.
The project represents a significant step forward in Tical’s energy strategy, particularly due to the integration of storage to manage its energy.

Large-Scale Industrial Energy Storage
One of the project’s key differentiators is its energy storage capacity: a 600 kWh system that, with the help of solar energy, is capable of providing backup power for hours.
This capacity allows for energy management using a different approach than that of a conventional solar system. The electricity generated can be stored and used at times when it adds the most value to operations.
Storage helps make better use of the energy produced by the solar system, manage consumption during peak-cost hours, reduce demand spikes, and strengthen the operation’s energy resilience.
Thus, the solution is not limited to producing clean energy. It also allows for more informed decisions about when to store it and when to use it.
Solar Power Generation to Reduce Costs and Environmental Impact
The project includes a 383-kW photovoltaic system, which complements the 1.2-MW system installed last year at its Coyol operations.
During its first year, generation is projected to reach 567.9 MWh, equivalent to 41.9% of the annual energy consumption at the Rio Segundo de Alajuela facility.
Added to this is an estimated reduction of 14 metric tons of CO₂ per year, an impact comparable to planting 213 trees each year.
The project by the numbers
- 383 kW of solar power.
- 613 solar panels.
- 567.9 MWh of estimated generation during the first year.
- 41.9% of consumption covered by solar energy.
- 600 kWh of energy storage.
- 14 metric tons of CO₂ avoided annually.
- Impact equivalent to planting 213 trees per year.

Sol-Ark: A Technology Partner for Large-Scale Projects
To develop a solution of this magnitude, the selection of technology and strategic partners is essential.
The project incorporates equipment from Sol-Ark, a partner of Avolta that specializes in technologies for integrating solar generation and energy storage. Its products enable the coordination of the system’s various components and the management of energy flows according to operational needs.
The partnership between Avolta and Sol-Ark combines local expertise, design and implementation capabilities, and specialized technology. This collaboration enables the development of larger-scale industrial projects, with solutions tailored to each client’s operating conditions.
In the case of Tical, this partnership was particularly significant due to the volume of storage required and the need to integrate solar energy, batteries, and demand management into a single strategy.

A Comprehensive Energy Strategy
The scope of the work carried out with Tical goes beyond simply installing equipment.
In addition to distributed generation and storage, Avolta supported the organization in developing its Energy Management System and in the certification process under the ISO 50001 standard.
This standard provides a framework for measuring, controlling, and continuously improving energy performance. Its implementation makes it possible to turn consumption data into decisions, establish baselines, define indicators, and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
In this way, the installed technology is complemented by management processes that help sustain results over the long term.
From Consuming Energy to Managing It Strategically
The Tical project demonstrates how a company can move beyond simply consuming electricity to actively managing its energy.
Generating, storing, measuring, and deciding when to use energy transforms it into a tool for competitiveness. The solution helps reduce costs and emissions, while also strengthening the operation’s ability to anticipate and adapt to the energy challenges of the future.
For Avolta, this case study demonstrates the potential of combining solar generation, industrial storage, technology from specialized partners such as Sol-Ark, and energy management systems within a single strategy.
Because the energy transition isn’t just about installing solar panels. It’s about building operations that are more efficient, smarter, and ready to keep moving forward.
